Susan Dunne
My goal as an potter is to create objects that are both useful and attractive, and that people will enjoy owning. I have been potting for about 20 years, but have been an artist much longer. I have always loved making things from a wide range of materials, and to be able to give gifts that I have created is one of the most satisfying things in life.
I studied art at McGregor Art School, through TAFE hobby classes, and at BIA, and Ceramics at Southbank TAFE, achieving my Advanced Diploma in Ceramics, Griffiths University, Southern Cross University, where I graduated with a Diploma of Visual Art majoring in Ceramics. After returning to Brisbane I attended classes at Clay School to refine my practice.
I have attended every International Woodfiring Conference in Gulgong since ’95, meeting an incredible variety of practitioners both local and international, gaining fresh insight into new movements in clay, and having heaps of fun,
Where I live now, I am fortunate enough to have my own little studio, and room in the back garden for a small gas kiln, that I am still trying to learn to fire properly. Being a past student of Ray Cavil, I am lucky enough too be invited to participate in the woodfirings he has with his current students each year. I hope to be able to continue this for a long time, as I find it incredibly satisfying and rewarding.
